Hints for a Successful Class
Arrive early to get your child comfortable.
Take your child to the restroom before practice to avoid
missing any
class time.
Provide clear liquids, such as water, in a bottle that has a
top that
closes available for when your child needs a drink.
Wait in the lobby area for the coach to bring the group out
to the
floor for class.
If you find your child is distracted by your presence, find a
more
discreet location to view that will allow your child to devote their
attention to the coach. Also, try and limit the activity of any siblings
viewing class as well that may distract the children in the gym or dance
room.
Refrain from coaching or disciplining your child from the
viewing area
as it makes it hard for the child to listen to both the coach and parent.
If your child falls ill or gets an injury during class, work
with the
coach to help your child while allowing the remainder of the class to stay
focused.
Discuss with your gymnast, before class, the importance of
listening
to the coach and following instructions.
Help keep distractions to a minimum by turning cell phones
off,
keeping conversations subtle and reduce entering and exiting the viewing
area multiple times.
Provide your child with positive feed back after every
practice.
